🎨 Your LinkedIn profile = your portfolio (plus 18 remote roles hiring now)

Hey Reader!

If you’ve been here a while, you know my home base is Taiwan.

But right now? I'm writing to you from Mexico.

This summer, I came to support family through a tough season.

And I’ll be honest, moving back into your parents’ home after 10 years of living independently is NOT easy.

It’s been a lesson in patience, presence, and relearning how to live with others.

I’m cherishing it all, even the hard parts.

The bright side? I finally built my remote work setup here in Mexico.

And with it, a fresh chapter of The Remote Marketer is kicking off.

Now let’s talk about something that makes a huge difference in your remote job hunt:

Your LinkedIn About section.

The About section that lands jobs

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about building your LinkedIn profile, from your headline to your banner.

Today, we’re diving into the part most people mess up: your About section.

Here’s what most job seekers do wrong:

They copy and paste their resume summary.

But here’s what hiring managers actually want:

A concise, human intro that shows who you are and why you’d be great to work with.

I call it the PPPF framework and I’ve used it for years (both personally and as a hiring manager).

Here’s how to break it down:

1/ Present

Start with one line on who you are today. Mention your role, industry, and strengths.

Example: Hey, I'm Gina 👋🏻 I'm a B2B SaaS fractional marketer with 10+ years in social, content and community.

2/ Pivot

Share one moment or insight that shaped you as a marketer. This is your “why.”

Example: In 2020, I launched a side project that hit 10K paying users and realized I loved building from 0 to 1.

3/ Past

Drop 1–2 lines on your background plus a list of measurable achievements.

A list helps people scan and read better, it gives their eyes a break.

Example:

What I feel the most proud of:

  • Grew a niche newsletter from 0 to 50K subscribers in 18 months
  • Led content strategy at a YC-backed startup, increasing inbound leads by 3x
  • Hosted a top 10 marketing podcast with 500K+ downloads and guests from Notion, Buffer, and Webflow

4/ Future

Tell us where you’re headed and what kind of work lights you up.

Example: I'm excited about early-stage startups building tools that support remote teams, whether it's hiring, onboarding, culture, or performance.

5/ CTA

Invite connection by speaking to your target audience directly.

Show them who you're here for.

Example: If you’re growing a marketing team in HR tech or work remotely, and you value clear messaging, strong brand foundations, and audience-first content, I’d love to connect. 📩 gina@theremotemarketer.com

Words from the community

"Gina helped me sharpen my CV and interview strategy. She showed me how to frame my experience with more clarity and impact and I walked away more confident and better prepared for high-stakes conversations. I’ve since landed a marketing director role."

Hey Reader! The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. I flew to Seoul, and now I'm in Mexico for the summer. Right when I landed, I got hit with the flu. My body was clearly waving a white flag after all the travel. But I knew I had to be here. It's a tough season health-wise for my family. I can’t fix it. But I can show up. And that’s the gift of remote work. I didn’t need to ask permission to go where I’m needed most. I just packed my laptop and booked a ticket. In the midst of all...

Hey Reader! Last week, I did something wild: I took a break from LinkedIn. No posts. No scroll. Just quiet focus. And guess what? That pause did wonders for The Remote Marketer. It also reminded me why LinkedIn has been such a big part of my career. It's where I built my brand and got real opportunities: In the past year, 3 CEOs reached out to me directly about roles. No job boards. No applications. (and one of those chats just turned into my next fractional role.) The truth? LinkedIn works...

Hey Reader! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been talking about how networking opens doors — and sometimes, those doors show up right when you need them. That’s been true for me lately. After three incredible years as Marketing Manager at Arc, I’ve closed that chapter and am now focused full-time on The Remote Marketer. This wasn’t an overnight decision. I’d been thinking about a shift for a while but hadn’t quite worked up the nerve to make it. When the change came, I felt ready — and, more...
